Penn State spent more than $27.6 million for legal fees, consultants and public relation firms associated with the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse case, according to information provided by Penn State Progress website.
This brings the bill for the month of November to $1.7 million compared to $2 million for October, as previously reported.
The University takes 40-45 days to receive all invoices for a particular month, according to the site.
“Some of the fees and costs set forth below are expected to be reimbursed under the University’s insurance policies.” according to the Progress website. “Legal and other expenses not covered by insurance are expected to be funded from interest revenues related to loans made by the University to its self-supporting units.”
Penn State spokesman David La Torre, declined to comment on the matter.
Costs related to “Board of Trustees - Internal Investigation and Communications reached $13 million, according to the site.
The second largest expense ¬– “University Legal Services/Defense” increased by more than $478,000 during the month of November, according to the site.
Fees and costs relating to “Externally Initiated Investigations”, “Indemnified Persons' Legal Defense” and “Other Institutional Expenses” totaled more than $7 million as of Nov. 30, according to the site.
