Bluegrass group featuring Steve Martin set to perform at Bryce Jordan Center

Steve Martin and his group The Steep Canyon Rangers will bring bluegrass comedy to Penn State this summer.

“An Evening of Bluegrass & Comedy” with Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers, featuring Edie Brickell, is set to occur at 7:30 p.m. on June 30 at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The group has previously toured nationally and will travel to Penn State to present its new set of songs.

The audience is in for a big surprise, as the concert will feature stadium-style seating, Bernie Punt, director of sales and marketing at the Bryce Jordan Center, said.

"Last year we were under some construction so we couldn't hold anything over the summer," Punt said. "Now that that is almost completed, we can hold a theatre-style show."

The group's new album "Love Has Come For You" is scheduled for release on April 20.

The Steep Canyon Rangers recently won a Grammy for "Best Bluegrass Band" this past weekend, Punt said.

"They've been on our radar for quite some time," Punt said. "We're very pleased and excited to have them."

Reserved theatre-style tickets will go on sale Feb. 20 at 10 a.m., and will be available at the Bryce Jordan Center, Eisenhower Auditorium, Penn State Downtown Theatre, Altoona Campus Ticket Outlet and online at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets for the event are $59.50.
