The State College Borough Council held a special meeting at 6:30 last night before their regular work session meeting at 7:30 to discuss the Neighborhood Coalition’s Report on issues with rental properties. Council heard from representatives from the Neighborhood Coalition regarding action on the letter that the Coalition submitted to the Council in October.
Borough Council also discussed a request from Ferguson Township to give $10,000 to the Baseball Tomorrow Fund Grant, a project to improve the youth baseball field in the Centre Region.
Council saw a presentation on redevelopment of the Arby’s site on the corner of South Atherton Street and West College Avenue. Ara Kervandjian and Heidi Nicholas presented a plan from Elkus Manfredi Architects to turn it into a residential, commercial and retail building to be called The Metropolitan. Council decided to add this issue to the agenda for the next regular Council meeting to refer the project to the Planning Commission.
Council discussed the public hearing on the rezoning of commercial districts that was held at the last meeting.
Finally, council heard from co.space, a project to create a living space for student entrepreneurs, regarding approval of guaranteeing a loan for the project. The house will be located at 244 East Nittany Avenue and will be targeted toward students and your professionals.
