State College Police respond to sexual assault

A sexual assault occurred this weekend somewhere in downtown State College, the State College Police Department said.

The assault was reported at 1:10 p.m. Saturday and the location of the incident has not yet been released, police said. The nature of the incident, when it exactly occurred or whether Penn State students were involved could not be released by press time Sunday.

The genders of the people involved could also not be released.

The investigation is ongoing and more details will be released, police said.

Since Aug. 27, 2012, local police fielded 19 separate reports of sexual assault and one report of a potential sexual assault from Dec. 16, in which the woman who reported the assault could not remember whether it was sexual in nature.
