No Refund Theatre set to perform 'The Penis Monologues'

A spin-off of “The Vagina Monologues” comes to 111 Forum this weekend in one of the most anticipated shows of the season.

“The Penis Monologues,” presented by No Refund Theatre, will be performed at 8 p.m. tonight and Saturday evening, as well as at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

NRT performs this show every year, said Libby Ross, director of “The Penis Monologues.”

“The show is a collection of stories that give insight into the male sexuality,” Ross (graduate-public relations) said.

The show presents these stories in a “funny, light-hearted manner,” she said.

Although the show is performed each year, Ross said that this year the cast has embraced their roles and made the show their own.

“It’s nice to have something new each year for the audience,” she said.

Sean Gregory, an actor in the performance, said the show is funny in an “off color” way.

“You can basically say what you want,” he (freshman-division of undergraduate studies) said. “You can have free reign of the stage.”

Gregory, who also was a part of the Penn State Thespians’ performance of “The Producers” in the fall, said “The Penis Monologues” is unlike any other show.

“Where else are you going to see a show like this? It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” he said.

The show is somewhat “raunchy” and improper, said Mac Schrantz, another member of the show’s cast.

“The Penis Monologues” is based off stories, Schrantz (graduate-integrative arts) said. These stories are either true or based on true events, he added.

“The majority of [the performance] is just for a laugh,” Gregory said. “I think the show is going to be a little more unique than past shows.”

NRT is a group of people who like to do theatre as a hobby, President Bryan Keith said.

He said the group tries to put on a free show each weekend. They try to have enough performances so that “everyone can be involved,” Keith (junior-film and video) said.
