Penn State Board of Trustees member John Surma will be leaving the board once his existing term ends in June, according to a Penn State Live press release.
Surma informally advised board leadership in December that he would be leaving due to new and continuing business commitments, according to the press release.
He reconfirmed his decision to leave as nominations and applications for business and industry Trustees begin, according to the press release.
On Nov. 9, 2011, Surma — then Board of Trustees vice chairman — announced that former university President Graham Spanier and former head football coach Joe Paterno would no longer work at the university. Two days later, the board introduced Rodney Erickson as interim president.
Surma has been a trustee member since 2007 and was vice chair in 2010 and 2011.
