Man charged in connection with sexual assault of student near HUB on Jan. 26

A Downingtown man has been charged with indecent assault, harassment and disorderly conduct in connection with the indecent assault of a female student on campus Jan. 26, according to court documents filed Jan. 30.

Matthew Runyon, 28, was arrainged Wednesday in connection with the sexual assault that occurred near the HUB-Robeson Center last month, police said.

The female student reported that at about 1 a.m. Jan. 26, she was followed by Runyon on Pollock Road and onto Shortlidge Road after leaving the HUB, police said.

The student said she was talking on her phone when Runyon repeatedly attempted to talk to her, police said. Runyon then grabbed the student’s buttocks and the student pushed him and yelled at him to get away, police said.

Runyon then attempted to ask the female student to follow him toward the HUB Deck stating, “I want to show you something,” police said.

The female student was able to identify Runyon through a photo line-up that was completed by police.

Runyon is scheduled to appear at formal arraignment March 6 at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
