Correction appended: Feb. 24, 2013.
Police continue to search for a man who they believe to be involved in a robbery and a separate burglary Tuesday morning, the State College Police Department said.
At 6:22 a.m., a man approached an employee at the front desk of the Super 8 Motel, 1663 S. Atherton St., claiming one of the vending machines was damaged, police said. The employee left the desk unattended when he went to check on the vending machine, and the man went behind the desk and took money, police said.
When the employee returned and confronted the man, the man said he had a gun and then ran toward Atherton Street, police said.
Police said the man is described as a white male wearing black boots, jeans, a gray jacket, a black hooded sweatshirt under the jacket pulled up over his head and a light colored faded baseball hat. He was last identified in the area of the Ramada, 1450 S. Atherton St., south parking lot, police said.
After police responded to the robbery, a burglary was reported at Gunn Mowery Insurance and Benchmark Construction, 1500 S. Atherton St.
Police said they believe the same man was involved in the burglary, which may have occurred before the robbery at Super 8. During the burglary, someone entered the office building and removed several items, police said.
Anyone with information on the robbery and burglary or anyone who can identify the man believed to be involved is asked to call the State College Police Department at 814-234-7150.
