Morale dance partners announced

THON Morale Committee members and Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon dancers had more to look forward to than just the Super Bowl last night.

At around 6 p.m. emails were sent out from captains to inform their committee members who they will be supporting for the 46 hour dance marathon.

Melanie Sessa, Overall Morale Chairperson, said that the process begins in the fall semester. All student groups that are registered to have dancers for the upcoming THON weekend are then allocated to committees and once the independent dancer lottery is completed, each captain is given a list of dancers, she said.

Then it is up to the discretion of the captain on how to pair members of morale with their dancers, Sessa said. Dancers fill out a survey about their interests and captains can use that information to pair up morale members by personality or interests.

Breanna Robinson was “beyond excited” to open the email her captain sent her with the list of dancer match ups.

“I’m reading over my email to him, making sure its perfect,” Robinson said.

Robinson said being on morale is all about “being excited for THON” and that she feels its not only her job to moral her dancer, but “to moral all 700 dancers.”

It will be Evan Bourgeois’s second time on morale. He said last year he was apprehensive about the weekend, but now it’s just all excitement.

He explained that in the initial email to the dancer, he has to “quickly let them know you’re going to be there for them” and let the dancer’s family know that their loved one is in good hands.

Carly Herr said she was shaking when she found out her dancer.

“It’s finally here,” she said. “It’s the most amazing feeling.”

She said finding out her own dancer was the first step to “meeting people who are going to do something amazing.”

“I’m so supportive and believe in them,” she said. “I know they can do this.”
