I heard one of our politicians, regarding the issue of guns, suggesting us firearm owners’ start thinking about and making suggestions concerning the issue of firearms and public safety.
I am a Democrat, and a very good Republican friend came to these conclusions.
Our leaders have taken a very narrow approach to this issue.
Each side has claimed a monopoly on the truth.
Each side wants what they think is best for the American people, what they think will keep us the safest and the happiest.
Neither side has demonstrated the courage to discuss possible unintended consequences of their suggested policies.
I would like to hear Democratic leaders and left-leaning talk show hosts give hard thought to what could be the worst possible things that could happen if they could implement their preferred firearm policies with the wave of a magic wand.
I would also like to hear Republican leaders and right-leaning talk show hosts give hard thought to what could be the worst possible things that could happen if they could implement their preferred firearm policies with the wave of a magic wand. I want to hear both sides talk about the worst that could happen if they are wrong in their assumptions.
Our leaders ultimately answer to us, and it is our responsibility to encourage our leaders to take a less adversarial and more thoughtful approach to politics.
I believe this same process should be applied to health care and abortion.
This approach begins here.
