Some members of the Penn State cheerleading team have been removed from the team for violating team rules, Assistant Athletic Director of Communications Jeff Nelson said Tuesday.
Nelson could not confirm the exact number of team members that were removed, but did say that it was more than one.
Nelson could not confirm or deny whether the removal of the cheerleaders from the team had to do with the incident involving 19-year-old Penn State cheerleader Paige Raque, who fell 39 feet out of an apartment building window during a party on Oct. 13 and sustained a head trauma injury.
Nelson said that since there is an ongoing police investigation, he is unable to comment any further.
The State College Police Department said Tuesday that there are no updates available in the investigation surrounding the incident.
In November, police began investigating if Raque was drinking the night of her fall after police were granted permission to examine Raque’s medical records, according to court documents. Police were looking to examine Raque’s blood alcohol content results from the night she was treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center for head trauma, according to court documents.
The State College Police Department said the Centre County District Attorney’s office is expected to file charges against an unknown amount of individuals within the coming weeks. The charges that will be filed will be related to serving or providing alcohol to someone under the age of 21, police said.
Police do not suspect foul play and the fall is being considered an accident.
Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller, who is expected to file the charges, could not be reached for comment.
