Pennsylvania has a lot to be proud of

Wow, another Southeastern Conference team wins the National Championship and “Sports Illustrated” immediately canonizes Nick Saban, of the University of Alabama, as Saint Coach.

Well, I remember a coach, now condemned by the self-righteous and sanctimonious, who tried to keep the “college” in Division I college football. Yes, I am talking about Joe Paterno.

I wonder how his teams would have stacked up on graduation rates with these SEC powerhouses? We Sports Illustrated readers know what’s real. Might as well be the “Wells-Fargo Alabama Crimson Tide” or the “Bank of America Louisiana State University Tigers.”

When I think of the state of Pennsylvania, I don’t think that much of the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal or Nittany Lions football.

I think about those Penn State kids I see on all the street corners collecting money for kids with cancer. Paterno was and is proud of those kids. You’ve got a lot to be proud of, Pennsylvania.
