Sophomore student falls about 30 feet inside IST building, transported to hospital

A male sophomore Penn State student fell about 30 feet from the third floor onto the second floor of the Information Sciences and Technology building at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday and was transported to a medical facility for treatment, Penn State Spokeswoman Lisa Powers said via email.

The student fell over a barrier at the top of the stairs in the building, Powers said. Powers said there is a wall with an additional glass barrier in the area where the student fell.

There were few witnesses to the incident, so it is unclear why the student fell, Powers said. The student was conscious when he was taken by ambulance from the scene, Powers said.

No report on the student’s condition was available by press time Thursday.

Assistant Penn State Police Chief William Moerschbacher said that the incident is currently under investigation. Moerschbacher could not provide any further details.

Penn State Police are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them at (814)-863-1111 .
