Police continue to search for three men involved in downtown armed robbery

Police are still looking for three men involved in the armed robbery of Kranich's Jewelers, 216 E. College Ave., Wednesday, where an undetermined amount of jewelry was stolen, the State College Police Department said.

Charles Kranich, owner of the store, said three men entered the store and one held a gun to the head of a Kranich’s Jewelers employee. The men fled with a “reasonable” amount of merchandise, though the total amount has not yet been determined, Kranich said.

No employees were injured during the robbery, though Kranich said one employee did go to the hospital to be evaluated due to prior health complications. The employee’s name could not be released, Kranich said.

Employees of the store reported that the three men entered the store and the first man displayed a handgun while demanding the display case keys, police said. The employees were placed on the floor while the men entered the display cases, police said.

According to a press release issued by the State College Police Department Wednesday night, the man with the gun is described as about 5 feet 8 inches tall, and about 180 pounds, wearing a navy blue running suit and grey hoodie. He is described as having a round face with a full, “stubbly” beard, a missing tooth and was described as “lighter-skinned” than the others, according to the release. He was armed with a long barrel silver handgun that appeared to be a revolver, police said.

This man referred to another man as “Big,” police said.

Another man, who was about 5 feet 8 inches tall, wore a black jacket, blue jeans, shiny black shoes and a dark ball cap, police said. He had a deep voice and had his face covered with a “gaiter of some sort,” police said. He also had a silver-colored revolver and carried a black Reebok bag, police said.

The third man was described as dark-skinned, about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall with a large build, police said. He wore a blue or black waist-length jacket with a hood and was also wearing a beanie cap with a logo, police said. This man had his face covered, police said.

The majority of merchandise was carried out by the third man in a large blue or black duffel bag with a Mercedes-type logo on the side, police said.

Along with stealing an undisclosed amount of jewelry, a ring, watch and wallet of one employee was also stolen, police said. Police responded to the scene at about 10:24 a.m. Wednesday.

The men were last seen walking south in a narrow walkway between Kranich’s Jewelry and the Tavern Restaurant, which exits onto East Calder Way, police said.

The current whereabouts of the men involved in the robbery are unknown, police said.

Penn State released information to its students via PSUTXT and said it would continue to update students as more progress is made. The release told students to consider the men “armed and dangerous.”

Anyone who may have information regarding the incident should contact the State College Police at 814-234-7150.
