Two sexual assaults reported

Local police fielded two reports of sexual assault over winter break — both between Dec. 16 and 19, 2012.

The State College Police Department is investigating a possible sexual assault reported at about 5:30 a.m. Dec. 16.

The incident was classified on a police log as “assault, sexual,” but police said the woman who reported the offense could not remember where the assault occurred or whether it was sexual in nature. Police said they were not sure if the woman was a Penn State student. Police did not provide any additional details with regard to the incident.

As of press time Sunday, police could not provide any updates on the case.

Penn State Police are investigating a separate sexual assault that occurred on campus on Dec. 19, according to a press release issued via Penn State Live.

The assault occurred in a residence hall between two Penn State students who previously knew each other, according to the release.

Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them at 814-863-1111 or Centre County CrimeStoppers at 1-877-99-CRIME. Callers may remain anonymous or may visit the Penn State University Police Silent Witness website at police.psu.edu/witness. Those providing information that leads to an arrest may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 from Centre County CrimeStoppers.

No additional information on the sexual assault was available by press time Sunday.
