The senior football players shouldn't support Maxwell Club

Coach Joe Paterno’s legacy includes senior football players whom the Maxwell Football Club has selected for the Thomas Brookshier Spirit Award, which is to be awarded on March 1.

These football players are very much a part of him, as he is a part of them.

We must remember this. He coached them. He acted as their mentor.

These players need to know that the Maxwell Club also discontinued the Joseph V. Paterno coaching award.

If an organization did something like that to one of my most trusted and respected teachers and mentors, that organization would absolutely be dead to me.

I would not even acknowledge its existence, let alone accept an award from it and shake the hand of one of its representatives.

This just doesn’t seem right.

I therefore encourage the seniors to reject the Maxwell Club’s award when the time comes.

They should also boycott the March 1 event.
