Penn State is not being shown in a good light over past year

A year ago the values and integrity of Penn State, and any of us who attended the school, was put into question after horrific news of the child sexual abuse cases came to light and after that, news came to light that many of the school leaders chose to, not only ignore it, but allowed it to keep going.

A year ago I said that I was still a proud Penn Stater and the actions made by few higher ups did not reflect the value of the education I got from Penn State. It appears attending a higher education institution has not taught the girls from Chi Omega anything, that they have in fact made the choice to make fun of a culture they obviously know nothing about, by making fun of Mexicans based on stereotypes. To the girls from Chi Omega, you are hurting our Penn State reputation, and you should be very ashamed of yourselves. You need to learn something about Mexican culture, so you can stop spreading your ignorance.

I am Mexican, and I’m a Penn Stater. So, I don’t understand how this type of ignorance still exists at Penn State. Penn State administration did not deal well with this type of events in previous years, but they also never reported child abuse to authorities. The new president needs to make a bigger and better effort to not allow this type of ignorance at the university, and promote the education and beauty of diversity.
