A female Penn State student was arrested and charged with possessing a firearm on the Elon University campus in North Carolina, said Dan Anderson, Elon's vice president for communications.
Alexis Morgan Gray, 18, of Holland, Pa., was found on Elon's campus on Nov. 25 carrying a Remington-597.22 caliber rifle, a knife and 6.5 feet of rope in her vehicle, Anderson said.
Elon's Campus Police were notified after Gray's father contacted the local dispatch center in Alamance County and said he was "concerned for her safety," Anderson said. Gray's father said he believed she was traveling to see her ex-boyfriend, who is currently an Elon student, though Anderson could not confirm his name.
Anderson said Gray's ex-boyfriend had also contacted campus police after speaking with Gray's father.
Elon police were able to intercept Gray outside of her ex-boyfriend's residence hall due to descriptions of her car and other details they received, Anderson said. Gray was then arrested for possessing the weapons described.
Since the incident, Anderson said Elon has issued several statements to its student population, updating them on the status of the legal proceedings and the action being taken against the Penn State student.
The most recent statement announced that Gray has left North Carolina and returned to Pennsylvnia, Anderson said.
Her next court date in Jan. 7, 2013, an Alamance County spokeswoman said.
