The NCAA sanctions should be lifted and we should restore our football program

Perhaps it is time to petition the NCAA to lift the unprecedented sanctions imposed on the football program. Two major reasons, among many possible, can be cited. First, Penn State promptly accepted the sanctions and implemented exceptional efforts to address the many issues resulting from the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse case.

Secondly, while administrators and former coach, Joe Paterno, are said to have withheld information about Sandusky, there were no violations of NCAA rules by the football program.

Beyond these reasons it is appropriate to note that NCAA investigations into allegations of wrongdoing should be conducted, which is something that should be routinely done before any NCAA sanctions have been imposed.

Let’s demonstrate to NCAA President Mark Emmert that some of us in the Penn State nation believe he has seriously overreacted to the detriment of a great university and a model football program.
