People shouldn't cry socialism after election

The dialogue between voters this year has proved how uninformed they are about the issues.

Just recently with Barack Obama winning reelection some conservatives on social media say they are fleeing socialist America for Canada.

However, they must forget that Canada is a much more “socialist” country.

And the flood of ignorant comments making way through social media about how the government will continue to support “the lazy people looking for handouts” that receive government entitlements, is just a ridiculous hasty generalization.

Are people really that uneducated and unaware of what these programs are?

Entitlements are not just food stamps, housing and welfare.

Included in entitlements are veteran’s benefits, social security, G.I. bill, federal student loans, disability and Pell Grants.

So by calling the people receiving entitlements “lazy” and “looking for handouts,” people should realize who they are talking about.

They are calling the lifetime marine lazy for receiving his veteran benefits.

They are calling the elderly woman who worked her entire life a person just “looking for a handout” because she collects social security.

They are calling the college student who works two jobs to cover costs on his or her own, as someone who wants things handed to her because she has federal loans.

Think about how many people fall under the realm of entitlements.

Think about how many hardworking people you know who are involved with these programs.

The American people need to take information more seriously because this shows they don’t care if they are completely ignorant and uninformed on the issue.

We need to care. We need to understand our country better.

And that will do nothing but continue to drive a wedge in our country.
