Change comes from the masses

Let’s chill out about this election. I think the excessive hype is causing people to get crazy and impulsive.

We’re starting witch-hunts over tax returns and college records. We’re being told that one party wants to declare a war on women. We’re being told that the other party is declaring war on religion. I feel like every public issue is sensationalized into some apocalyptic war. The president can’t just do whatever he wants, nor should he try. I’m not saying the election won’t change anything. Political changes will happen, but our culture will remain just as divisive as it is now. We’re still going to be debating countless issues four years from now. Putting all of your hope in either Mitt Romney or Barack Obama is simply going to keep all of these rhetorical wars going. If you want something to change, don’t always look to the president.

Human nature dictates that we won’t agree on everything, but if we settled our differences in a civil way, maybe politicians would follow our example and have intellectually rigorous, but respectful debates.
