Hurricane 40 oz. Malt Liquors selling out at State College Bottle Shops

State College bottle shops are selling out of Hurricane 40 oz. Malt Liquor in nearly record numbers, with Hurricane Sandy hitting the East Coast and all Penn State classes canceled after 1:10 p.m. Monday.

Kelsey Benkoski, manager of Sharkies Bar and Thrifty Bottle Shop, 110 Sowers St., said that in an average day they will sell about a case of Hurricanes, which contains 12 bottles. Benkoski said today so far they have sold 11 cases.

Colin Zimmerman, an employee at Zeno’s To Go bottle shop, 100 W. College Ave., said he saw people in buying alcohol about two hours earlier than the time he would usually see people coming in on a Monday. Zimmerman said people were coming in large groups to buy the limit of Hurricanes, which by law is four.

Philip Lewandowski, a supervisor at Brewsky's Bottle Shop, said he has also been selling out of Hurricanes at a much faster level than usual.
