West Penn Power reports outages in Centre County

Correction appended: Oct. 29, 2012.

At about 6:30 p.m., Allegheny Energy External Communications Manager Mark Nitowski said about 200 customers in Centre County were without power, and State College had less than five power outages.

The power outages are expected to last seven to 10 days and, at this point, West Penn Powers has crews ready even though the storm hasn’t fully hit yet, a West Penn Power customer service representative said earlier today. They are prepared and have crews from neighboring states, such as Ohio, New Jersey and West Virginia, will be helping with restoration efforts.

An earlier version of this article contained incorrect information regarding the number of power outages in the Centre County area. At about 4 p.m., a West Penn Power customer service representative said 10,485 power outages were seen in Centre County, according to estimates from West Penn Power's reporting software. However, Allegheny Energy External Communications Manager Mark Nitowski later said the earlier figures were incorrect, and the outages in Centre County only totaled about 200.
