Student survives fall from fifth floor window

A 19-year-old female Penn State student was injured late Saturday night after falling out of a window from the fifth floor of Calder Commons apartments, the State College Police Department said.

Police did not identify the woman, but said she fell about 39 feet out of a window sometime around 11:45 p.m. Police do not suspect foul play or criminal activity was involved in the incident. The incident has been deemed accidental.

The woman is alive as of early Sunday morning, police said, but her condition is unknown as of press time Sunday.

It is unknown how the woman fell out of the window, but police photographers and personnel were taking photos of the first floor parking deck of Calder Commons at about 1 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

The woman was taken to a trauma center after the incident, but police did not specify which center she was at.

Police could not provide any more information on the incident as of press time Sunday.

As of press time Sunday, representatives of McKinney Properties, which owns Calder Commons, could not be reached after multiple calls for comment.
