Plane diverted to University Park after smoke found in bathroom

No injuries were reported after a commercial airplane on its way to Philadelphia made an emergency landing at the University Park Airport Monday afternoon.

The plane, which consisted mostly of airplane crew and only one passenger, was flying from Buffalo, N.Y. when smoke appeared in the bathroom, forcing an emergency landing, Director of the University Park Airport Bryan Rodgers said.

Rodgers said the 50-seat US Airways Express flight touched down at about 2:30 p.m., and that by the time it arrived, the smoke was no longer in the air. Rodgers said it was unclear how the smoke was dealt with while on board.

It is also unclear why smoke appeared in the bathroom specifically, but Rodgers said it was not from someone smoking in the bathroom.

Rodgers said that the airport was prepared for the event and that it was notified in advance.
