Counsel for former Interim Senior Vice President for Finance and Business Gary Schultz sent a letter dated Sept. 10 to the Board of Trustees asking them to “defer consideration” of voting whether or not to rename the Gary Schultz Child Care Center.
Thomas Farrell, Schultz’ attorney, asked the Board to hold off on the decision until a verdict is rendered in Schultz’s trial.
Schultz faces charges of perjury and failure to report suspected abuse in relation to the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse case.
“The renaming of the Child Care Center will unfairly and precipitously paint [Shultz] as guilty before trial,” the letter stated.
Jury selection for Shultz's trial is scheduled to begin on Jan. 7, 2013.
