Former presidential hopeful may join week's lineup

The Penn State College Republicans are planning a lineup of nationally-known speakers for this year’s TRUTH Week, chairman Jordan Harris said.

In order to boost morale among Republicans for the upcoming election, the club has invited former Republican presidential nominee Herman Cain to speak at the State Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 17 and political commentator Ann Coulter to speak on campus the following day.

Also scheduled to speak are economist Stephen Moore and FEE Distinguished Scholar Dr. Burton Folsom to speak on Oct. 15 and Oct. 16, respectively.

Because the latter three have not yet “signed the dotted line,” Harris declined to say exactly where on campus they will be speaking.

Richard Biever, executive director for the State Theater, said that although he made the venue available for Cain to speak, he is still waiting for confirmation from the organization.

The series of speakers will conclude on Friday with a “rally for victory” intended to raise support for Pennsylvania senatorial candidate Tom Smith and attorney general candidate David Freed.

Harris also said that attempts are being made to arrange a visit from either Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney or vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan.
