With the football season quickly approaching, students will now have a new item to add to their Penn State pride wardrobe: a pair of White and Blue TOMS shoes.
For the second year, TOMS is celebrating the upcoming football season by adding limited edition Campus Classics shoes to its collection.
The popularity of the shoes among college students is what stirred the idea to create university-themed TOMS, Matt Wolf, the media specialist for Ketchum Public Relations, said on behalf of TOMS.
Students from select universities are able to purchase TOMS shoes with the university’s colors, allowing students to support a child in need while displaying school pride.
“By supporting TOMS’ effort, essentially the school is saying they support TOMS’ philosophy,” Wolf said.
TOMS’ philosophy is one for one: with every pair of shoes purchased, TOMS will donate a pair of new shoes to a child in need. TOMS could not be directly reached for comment by press time Thursday.
“With this collection, TOMS is hoping college kids will combine their passion for TOMS with the pride they have for their school,” Wolf said.
Devin Burke, who owns a pair of TOMS shoes thinks the Campus Classics are a good way to show support for Penn State so that the university can move forward.
“We here are privileged. There are children in need,” Burke (senior-communications) said. “At the same time, our school needs a backbone to stay strong.”
Some Penn State students look past the idea of school pride. Jenny Shi said if she were to purchase the shoes, it would not be for the sole purpose of wearing them to a football game.
“I’m more okay with the fact that I’d be supporting a child,” Shi (senior-telecommunications) said. “There are so many ways to show school pride.”
The shoes are on sale at TOMS.com for $48.
