Worker injured in fall at Pegula Ice Arena

A construction worker was injured on-site Wednesday at the Pegula Ice Arena on campus, Penn State University Spokeswoman Annemarie Mountz confirmed.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. when an employee of S&R Enterprises, a subcontractor of Cives Steel Company, fell while performing ironwork, according to a statement from contractor Mortenson Construction. The worker is not a university employee, Mountz said.

The worker was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment, according to the statement.

Pegula Ice Arena started construction in April after a gift of $88 million was given by Terry and Kim Pegula to establish a hockey arena on campus. The arena is set to open in fall 2013, when the men’s hockey team will play its second season, and the first inaugural season of hockey in the Big Ten conference.
