Sexism alive in golf

This letter is in response to a Tuesday, April 10 letter called “Golf is a man’s sport.”

The entire letter was ignorant and sexist. The facts of the letter’s argument are only valid because it was written by a man living in a patriarchal society.

Golf is sexist. The letter even stated, “The Women’s Professional Golf Association could be considered an oxy-moron.”

This is a problem considering women are still trying to have equal rights in this country.

The fact that women get paid 77 cents to a man’s dollar for the same position with the same education and qualifications is still a current problem, according to pay-quity.org. According to thinkprogress.org, women make up 51 percent of the U.S. population, yet only make up 17 percent of the Senate — this is serious problem.

President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, his likely Republican challenger, both said the “all-male club should admit women,” according to an April 6 Reuter’s article.

On his CNN nightly show, Piers Morgan said, “It’s just like something out of the Dark Ages.”

Not to mention the woman they rejected is a huge monetary contributor of The Masters, and the club could lose that sponsorship.

Women deserve equal rights, pay and membership to places whose “tradition” needs to be changed.

Thanks for pointing out that Augusta’s private club is continuing to oppress women and therefore, disserves all the media coverage it deserves.
