Bill of particulars released in Sandusky case

Prosecutors in the Jerry Sandusky case said eight of the 10 men connected to Sandusky’s charges were sexually abused on Penn State’s campus — in the Lasch Football Building, the East Area Locker Rooms and an outdoor pool — according to a bill of particulars released Thursday.

The Office of the Attorney General filed the bill of particulars, a document containing additional details about the incidents connected to Sandusky’s charges — such as the ages of the individuals he is charged with abusing and the approximate times of each incident — at the request of the former assistant football coach’s defense team.

Outside of the incidents involving the men identified as “Victim 6” and “Victim 8” in the grand jury presentments, prosecutors were unable to provide specific dates for many of the incidents because prosecutors said there were numerous offenses over the course of several years, according to the document. Additionally, many of the males who Sandusky is charged with abusing were unable to provide because they were children at the time of the incidents, according to the bill of particulars.

Sandusky’s attorney Joe Amendola said Thursday that the defense team may file an additional motion asking prosecutors for more detailed information regarding each of the males.

Sandusky is charged with 52 counts of sexually abusing boys. Two civil lawsuits have also been filed against him. He has maintained his innocence and is awaiting a trial, scheduled for May 14.

In the bill of particulars, prosecutors said Sandusky sexually abused “Victim 1” between 2005 and 2008, when the boy was between 11 and 15 years old. The incidents occurred at Sandusky’s Grandview Drive residence, an undisclosed State College hotel near Sandusky’s house and at the school he attended, according to the document. Sandusky began having the boy stay overnight at his home and eventually began having unwanted physical contact with him at bedtime, which eventually escalated into performing sexual acts on him, according to the presentment.

The exact age and identity of “Victim 2” is still unknown, according to the bill of particulars. Former assistant football coach Mike McQueary testified in December that he saw Sandusky standing behind a young boy, now known as “Victim 2,” in a shower area of the Lasch Football Building. McQueary testified that he was almost certain that what he saw was “severe” and “sexual” in nature.

In 2000, “Victim 3” met Sandusky when he was between seventh and eighth grade, according to the bill of particulars. Prosecutors said “Victim 3” was sexually abused between 2000 and late 2002 in the Lasch Football Building, according to the bill of particulars.

The boy identified as “Victim 4” met Sandusky between 1996 and 1997, and his age span ranges from 12 to 17 years old, according to the bill of particulars. Prosecutors said he was sexually abused at Sandusky’s residence, the Lasch Football Building and the Toftrees Golf Resort and Conference Center — where the football team and staff stayed prior to home football games — according to the document. Prosecutors also said Sandusky sexually assaulted the boy in Florida and Texas when he traveled with the football team to bowl games, according to the document.

Another boy identified as “Victim 5” was abused from the time he was 8 until he was 12, according to the document, prosecutors said, and the offenses occurred between 1996 and 2000 in the East Area Locker Rooms on campus, according to the bill of particulars.

Prosecutors said Sandusky sexually abused the boy identified as “Victim 6,” who was 11 years old at the time, on May 3, 1998 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the Lasch Football Building, according to the document.

Sandusky’s alleged contact with this boy initiated an investigation by Penn State University Police in 1998 after the boy’s mother found out Sandusky had been showering with him, according to the presentment. No charges were filed after the 1998 investigation.

Prosecutors said a boy identified as “Victim 7” met Sandusky in 1994 when he was about 11 years old, and he was sexually abused by Sandusky until he was about 14, according to the bill of particulars. The incidents occurred at Sandusky’s residence and in the East Area Locker Rooms on campus, according to the bill of particulars.

The man identified as “Victim 8” in the presentment never came forward. A janitor who was employed at the time by Penn State observed Sandusky in the showers of the Lasch Football Building performing oral sex on the young boy, according to the presentment. According to the bill of particulars, the janitor estimated the boy was between 11 and 13 years old.

The person identified as “Victim 9” said he was sexually abused in the Sandusky’s house, according to the presentment. According to the bill of particulars, prosecutors said several incidents also occurred at the pool and fitness center of the Hilton Garden Inn, 1221 E. College Ave, from the time the boy was 13 until he was 15 or 16 years old.

Prosecutors said “Victim 10” was sexually abused when he was between 10 and 12 years old, sometime between the summer of 1997 and 1999, according to the bill of particulars. The incidents occurred in Sandusky’s residence, an outdoor pool on campus and in Sandusky’s car, according to the document.
