“The Soundtrack to Penn State,” which many students know as The Lion 90.7 FM, and the website “State in the Real” will be collaborating in order to bring students and community members access to interviews, new music and local artists.
State in the Real is a website that is dedicated to putting out interviews, reviews, news and calendars with upcoming events and concerts. Lion 90.7 FM is a student-run radio station that broadcasts classical rock music, sports coverage and talk radio from inside the HUB-Robeson Center. The collaboration will not only bring students what the sites have in the past, but the members of both are going to be bringing new and exciting things to the table.
“There’s going to be a lot of new stuff coming from the both of us,” Topher Stephenson (senior-health policy and administration) said. “We’re going to be working on a lot of stuff together, and having events and concerts.”
Besides wanting to work together, the website and radio station want to give the students a place to go to find music and event information.
“By combining them, there are more people that are able to put out local artists and find out new music in the local area,” Samantha Metz (freshman-public relations) said.
Both parties are able to update the two websites and speak on air about new music and artists that may interest the Penn State community.
While both websites will remain separate, each one will have links to access the other one somewhere on their main pages.
“They wanted to extend their web presence, and we wanted to extend our radio presence,” Chris Markwich, creator of State in the Real, said.
The new collaboration has been effective immediately.
“We’ve officially started working together,” Stephenson said. “But our first event has yet to be released.”
