Presidential candidate and Penn State alumnus Rick Santorum will visit Penn State's campus on Tuesday, Aug. 30 for a meet and greet hosted by the Penn State College Republicans.
The event, which is open to the public, will take place in 106 HUB at 7:30 p.m., said Deb Flavin, executive director of the Centre County GOP.
Santorum, a former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania, was the chairman of the Penn State College Republicans during his time as an undergraduate.
Current Chairman of the College Republicans Josh Crawford said having Santorum return to the Penn State campus will inspire current College Republicans.
“It’s good for the club members to see someone who has come from the position that they are in now get to where he is now, being a former U.S representative, United States senator and now a presidential candidate,” Crawford said.
Santorum is the first 2012 presidential candidate to visit the Penn State campus for the coming election. His visit comes just two weeks after finishing fourth in the Iowa straw poll, which has no effect on the presidential primaries, but is considered an early indicator of organizational strength for a presidential candidate.
