Former Lion wrestler Jenkins will transfer to Arizona State

Former Penn State wrestler Bubba Jenkins has officially announced where he will wrestle next season.

"I'm going out West and being a Sun Devil," Jenkins confirmed Monday.

The future Arizona State wrestler said he will compete at either 149 or 157 pounds, depending on what's best for the team.

Jenkins, a 2008 NCAA runner-up, mentioned three main reasons for his decision: the loyalty of the Arizona State coaching staff, the fresh start of being out West and longtime friend Brian Stith's assistant-coach status.

Jenkins said he will finish up this semester at Penn State, but he'll probably have to take summer-school credits at Arizona State and transfer them over to gain a Penn State degree. Another option would be to enter the one-year Arizona State liberal arts masters program if his grade point average is high enough.

Old Dominion, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Oklahoma State and Nebraska were Jenkins' other leading options.
