On Thursday night the Chiddy Bang concert, hosted by Sigma Chi, went out with a quieter bang than expected, when cops shut down the event due to noise.
Chiddy Bang was scheduled to go on at 8 p.m. and end at 9, but the group didn't arrive until shortly after 9. The sound system was shut off around 9:30 p.m., but Chiddy Bang decided to perform one more song acapella.
"We'll close with one more just because we love you guys," said Xaphoon Jones, one half of the duo.
Jones accompanied Chidera (Chiddy) Anamege's rap with a soft drumbeat.
Catherine Katze, who attended the event, said she was pleased with the concert, even though she didn't get to hear a whole set.
"Even though it started late, it was still worth the wait," Katze (freshman-accounting) said.
But Jason Shpilsky said he was "disappointed" the police shut the show down early.
"We waited a long time to obviously
see Chiddy, but there's not much you
can do," Shpilsky (junior-biochemistry) said.
Head Chairman of Derby Days and Sigma Chi brother Justin Kresge said he would like to apologize to everyone who came to the event and didn't get to hear a full set.
"We're sorry to everyone that came and supported us that Chiddy Bang didn't get to play a full set for them," Kresge (sophomore-marketing) said.
Kresge added there were some factors they could not control, such as the bad weather and the "artist showing up five hours late."
But, he said, overall the event was successful in raising money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
Ground Up opened for Chiddy Bang at 6:45 p.m. and ended around 7:30 p.m.
Even though Chiddy Bang did not play many songs, Chiddy was able to show his skills at freestyle by rapping about topics called out by audience members.
"My man Chiddy is going to kick a freestyle about groupies, Philly and stem cells," Jones said.
One line in his rap went: "I'm swell, I'm at Penn State researching stem cells."
Chiddy said he enjoyed playing for the audience at Thursday's concert.
"It was amazing; it was cool," he said. "The energy that you guys have--you guys know how to use it."
