The Penn State baseball team snapped its seven-game losing streak Friday morning, defeating Kent State 7-3 in the first round of the Coca-Cola Classic.
The Nittany Lions got on the board early and never looked back, getting a strong pitching performance out of Mike Wanamaker. The starting pitcher went six innings and allowed only three runs while striking out five. David Lutz came in to pitch the last three innings and picked up his first save of the season, allowing only one hit.
On the offensive side, the Lions had a balanced attack and got hits from seven of their hitters, five of whom had a multi-hit game. Jordan Sternaka had three hits, while Mario Eramo and Joey DeBernardis each had three RBIs.
Penn State continues play on Saturday against Columbia and Winthrop in a doubleheader.
