State Patty's no different from past Penn State events

I didn't go out to the bars for State Patty's Day and had no desire to do so. I'm also not into big parties -- a few good friends to socialize with is all I need. That said, how is drinking at the university any different than it has ever been? People say they're ashamed. Ashamed of what? Events like State Patty's Day have gone in and out of existence at this university and in this town for years. And what one person says is foolish behavior might be a big part of the memories and good times at this university for another.

My father was a member of Phi Kappa Psi when the fraternity started the 'Phi Psi 500' in 1968. He has never been much for drinking, but looking back, he and his brothers weren't much different than we are as students today. What I see is friends getting together with friends to enjoy their time together at the university.

And even though the excessive use of alcohol as a social lubricant isn't the wisest decision, this shouldn't be the forum to try a referendum on changing human behavior.
