While previous Interfraternity Council (IFC) committees may have been underutilized in the past, the IFC has revamped its structure to include four new committees.
According to the press release, it is to tackle a greater scope of problems while providing additional leadership opportunities.
The four new committees are the committee for membership; the committee for risk management; the committee for community and university relations; and the committee for philanthropic, community service, and educational programming affairs
"The reason for implementing a new committee structure is to strengthen the Interfraternity Council's approach to important issues," IFC president Max Wendkos said.
A vice president within the IFC will chair each of these new committees and members will soon be appointed after applications have been submitted by March 15. Wendkos (senior-marketing and psychology) said the committees have been built into the IFC bylaws and will facilitate the goals of future councils. Each committee has positions for four to six members
Vice President for Programming Christian Van Horn said he's looking forward to the combination of minds the new committee members will add to the new IFC CORE program.
"I'm very excited for the committee structure -- it's organized and we have a good direction to go with. It will help CORE go even further than it already has and more people want to be involved," Van Horn (junior-labor and employment relations) said.
Underneath Van Horn, the committee for community and university relations for membership will cover everything from creating effective recruitment strategies and new member education programs to developing anti-hazing education. Van Horn will lead the committee for community and university relations, which will facilitate communication between the IFC and the State College Borough and other non-university affiliated organizations, and coordinate all activities concerning cultural affairs and university affairs.
A new resource for fraternity philanthropies will be the committee for philanthropic, community service, and educational programming affairs. This new committee will work with fraternities to coordinate and promote community service events.
