'Holiday' celebration a right earned by student body

At this point, we understand the borough and community are not happy about State Patty's Day -- from the targeting by the Interfraternity Council to the University Park Undergraduate Association ad posted in the Collegian about last year's statistics. Let us consider an alternative then, shall we? I say that because the borough refuses to recognize this tradition or holiday, we all celebrate on actual Saint Patrick's Day. It is the Wednesday after break on a day where almost everyone will have classes, assignments and possibly tests.

Let's get as drunk as possible in hopes of completely derailing an academic day, because, technically speaking, it must be better than doing it on a weekend. Better alternative, right? Let us ignore the fact that State Patty's helps break up the monotony in the spring semester at a time where work load has begun to take its toll on most of us -- let alone all the THON participants who tirelessly sacrificed themselves for a better cause just last weekend. Not everyone has to like or agree with it, but students earn and look forward to this weekend. I will be celebrating State Patty's day responsibly and will not let belligerently drunk people or the borough ruin it for me. I hope others follow in suit.
