In response to the Feb. 17 article, "Organization backs PSU," PennFuture's slogan is that "every environmental victory grows the economy." I wonder how they feel about victories built on shoddy research and statistical distortions.
Penn State's internal report on Michael Mann failed to address the heart of the "Climategate" issue and demonstrated that the university is either unable or unwilling to provide a thorough investigation. Unbiased, independent and external reviewers are necessary.
PennFuture is calling on the Commonwealth Foundation to apologize for demanding accountability from Penn State. PennFuture appears to think that thorough investigations will somehow impugn the university's integrity. The truth is that inquiries like the one the university conducted do far more damage to our integrity.
If PennFuture really cared about protecting the integrity of Penn State, it would stand with the Commonwealth Foundation and with student groups like Young Americans for Freedom to demand a thorough, independent investigation of Mann and "Climategate."
I love Penn State, and it grieves me to see the university's reputation impugned. But I know that this university's honor will not be restored by sweeping the allegations under the rug.
