Motion City to play free HUB performance

Lindsey Cahn is a big Motion City Soundtrack fan. She remembers trying to buy the band's CD in her freshman year, only to hear it was sold out.

She's seen the band perform six or seven times before, and she'll be at its free concert on Saturday, Jan. 30.

"They're a great band. They have a lot of energy on stage," Cahn (junior-psychology) said. "I think a lot of college students can relate to their music, and they have a lot of people that really like them."

Penn State's Student Programing Association (SPA) booked the band, which is set to play at HUB Alumni Hall at 10 p.m. The band will be preceded by Set Your Goals.

SPA Entertainment Chairwoman Claire DiGiacomo is excited for the band to perform. She thinks it will bring a different and decent-sized crowd.

"It should be a really good concert," she said. "It should be a good experience for students to go."

Brianna Spadafora (freshman-division of undergraduate studies) is also planning to attend the event.

"A lot of their music is really catchy, but it's different from mainstream music other people have heard," she said. "They have a wide variety of sounds in their music, so I think that a bunch of people will find something they like."

Both Spadafora and Cahn said they have been fans of the band for several years. Fans of all different music genres will be attracted to Motion City Soundtrack's sound, Cahn said.

"They have really good lyrics. They use a synthesizer, which gives them a different sound than other bands," she said.

Sales start on Jan. 25 and students are allowed one ticket per ID, further details are yet to be announced.
