Lions crush Lock Haven, another wrestler leaves team

Brad Pataky's pin in the opening bout of Sunday's dual meet was a sign of things to come for the Penn State wrestling team.

The No. 15 Nittany Lions (6-1-1) handled Lock Haven on their way to an impressive 32-6 victory.

Pataky's pin came just 50 seconds into his 125-pound match and gave the Lions an early 6-0 advantage. Major decisions were notched by Adam Lynch (141 pounds), Frank Molinaro (149) and Dan Vallimont (165).

Meanwhile, Cyler Sanderson won his bout at 157 by technical fall and Justin Ortega won by getting a quick takedown in the sudden victory period at 174.

Lynch wrestled at 141 in place of Colby Pisani. During his postmatch comments, coach Cael Sanderson confirmed Pisani has left the team, but did not elaborate on the reason. Pisani is one of a several wrestlers to leave the Lions this season

The Lions compete in the Virginia Duals Jan. 8-9 before returning home Jan. 22 to host Illinois.
