Jenkins, Macchiaroli leave Nittany Lions

Head coach Cael Sanderson confirmed Wednesday that redshirting senior Bubba Jenkins has left the Penn State wrestling team.

Jenkins redshirted the first half the 2009-10 because of academic ineligibility. In three seasons as a Nittany Lion, Jenkins amassed a 73-21 record.

"Bubba won't be here next semester," Sanderson said in a phone conversation. "I don't know [about his future] for sure. We're taking requests for releases and that kind of thing, but he won't be here."

The Lions will be losing another grappler as freshman Luke Macchiaroli is transferring to Arizona State. Macchiaroli is a native of Tempe, Ariz. and was the winner of the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award as a senior.

"He just wanted to go home," Sanderson said. "He's a good kid, and we have a lot of respect for him, but he just realized he wanted to go home."
