At a dinner in honor of outgoing and incoming greek leaders Wednesday night, Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life Roy Baker said the new councils will have big shoes to fill.
"They've got a heck of a big job this year," he said.
But Interfraternity Council President-Elect Max Wendkos said he is ready for the challenge.
Wendkos (senior-marketing and psychology) said Tuesday he decided he wanted to run for IFC president two years ago.
He has since developed new ideas and policies for the improvement and benefit of the IFC -- platforms on which he ran and won the IFC presidential election.
"It was really just a matter of identifying areas where improvements could be made and then working towards those improvements," he said.
Wendkos was elected to the position Tuesday and will become IFC president Friday, Dec. 11.
Tuesday, he said his biggest goal for the next year will be to help the IFC adjust to the new social policies that will be enacted next semester.
Wendkos said he hopes to strengthen communication between the executive board and the president's council and strengthen leadership development within the fraternity community.
He also hopes to strengthen ties between the four greek governing councils -- the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council (PHC), Multicultural Greek Council and National Panhellenic Council (NPHC).
Panhellenic Council President-Elect Sara Linkosky (junior-political science) said she is excited about Wendkos' goal to further unite the councils, as well as many of his other ideas.
"He is very enthusiastic about this position," she said. "I'm confident he will be a great leader for the IFC. He has some great ideas for programming and for getting members of the greek community more involved in programming and philanthropy."
The dinner was held at the Days Inn, 240 S. Pugh St., where Baker spoke about the four outgoing council presidents. The three council presidents present at the dinner spoke of their experiences. Multicultural Greek Council President Gina Chang was not in attendance.
Plaques and awards were given first by Baker to the council presidents and then by the council presidents to their organization's representatives.
Representatives from all four councils were in attendance at Wednesday's dinner
