The CQ Press ranked State College as the No. 1 safest metropolitan place to live in the country for 2009.

The Congressional Quarterly (CQ) Press ranked State College at No. 2 last year and uses FBI crime statistics tallied by local police agencies, CQ Press officials have said.

Rounding out 2009's top five behind State College are Sheboygan, WI; Appleton, WI; Bangor, ME; and Logan, UT-ID.
