Men's fencing falls short in Garrett Open

The Penn State men's fencing team fell just short of coming out on top at the Garrett Open on Sunday at the White Building.

In the saber event, sophomore Aleksander Ochocki and senior Daniel Bak both lost in the semifinal rounds. The two teammates then squared off for third place as Bak came out victorious.

Senior Brian Heflich was the only fencer for Penn State to crack the top eight for men's epee. Heflich defeated Ohio State's Igor Tolkachez in the consolation round to finish in third place.

In the foil, freshman Daniel Gomez-Tanamachi finished in 10th place.

Both the men's and women's fencing teams will return to action Nov. 29 at Harvard.
