Bars charged in lack of alcohol training

The Pennsylvania Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement charged three downtown establishments with failing to require responsible alcohol management training, police said.

The Deli, 113 Heister Street; The Saloon, 101 Heister Street; and Inferno Brick Oven and Bar, 340 E. College Ave., could each face fines ranging from $50 to $1,000, police said. The incidents occurred between Sept. 11 and Oct. 5, police said. The bars are all owned by Dante's Restaurants Inc.

Student hit by taxi, taken to hospital

Penn State student Whitney Vanier, 22, was taken to the Altoona Hospital Trauma Center for a fractured left femur after she was struck by a taxi van at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, the State College Police Department said.

Police said she left a downtown party and tried to walk across the 1300 block of East College Avenue to get a taxi, police said.

Police responded to the scene and found her lying along the south side shoulder of East College Avenue and she "appeared incoherent either due to injuries suffered in

the crash or due to intoxication," according to the accident report.
