New group to rock Metal night

When it comes to promoting and booking shows, metal group Until Life's End said it is one of the do-it-yourself best.

The Sunbury, Pa., band's singer Steve Carnahan said having an independent mindset is what labels are looking for these days -- they want to know that bands are hardworking and don't need constant hand-holding.

"All of us put in an equal amount of time to make this the best band possible," Carnahan said. "Labels want to see bands that are willing to take the extra mile."

The metal band will bring its hard work and intensity tonight to The Cell Block, 420 E. College Ave., for Metal Monday.

Until Life's End recently finished an eight-date tour that stretched from New York to North Carolina.

The band, whose influences include European black metal and hardcore metal, booked all of its shows on its own through MySpace messaging and talking through contacts.

Although hardworking, the band also had help from local metal mainstay Judgement Shall Pass in booking tonight's show.

Judgement Shall Pass drummer Matt Price said he heard about the band through the other group playing tonight, YourLast Words. Judgement Shall Pass then asked if Until Life's End wanted to play a show in November.

Josh Chestnutwood, manager for the Cell Block's Heavy Metal Mondays, said he takes what Price has to say about other bands seriously.

"Matt Price is kind of like my right-hand man when booking these shows," Chestnutwood said.

Carnahan said he jumped at the chance to play at the bar that was formerly the Crowbar, a venue he used to go to all the time.

"We hope that the State College kids are into metal, and the way Judgment Shall Pass makes it sound, that's the case," Carnahan said.

And if people bring in a canned food item, they will receive $2 off the cover price.

"We're helping out the community," Price said. "Maybe people won't be too scared of the metal scene anymore, because we are good people."
