Full Ammo Improv and the Students Organizing the Multiple Arts (SOMA) have teamed up to bring comedy to Penn State with the "College Humor Live" tour.
Thanks to their collaborative efforts, Penn State will be one of the few colleges to see the live performance taking place Dec. 5 in Paul Robeson Cultural Center's Heritage Hall.
"It's a new tour, and it hasn't seen a lot of schools yet," former SOMA president Kelly Murphy said. "We're kind of getting a sneak peak."
Performances will include stand-up comedy featuring two duos, Streeter Seidell and Penn State graduate Jeff Rubin as well as Internet stars Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld, Murphy (senior-English) said.
"Daily Show" correspondent Wyatt Cenac will headline the show.
Rubin shows how someone from Penn State can truly achieve success in the entertainment world, Full Ammo Improv secretary Mark McColey said.
"The reaction so far has been really positive. People have been really excited for the headliners," Murphy said.
The performers are very recognizable to students who enjoy comedy, Murphy said.
"We're bringing in the best of College Humor," Full Ammo Improv President Dan Miller said.
A student stand-up showcase will take place Dec. 4 to complete the comedy-centered weekend, Miller (junior-economics and accounting) said.
Collaborative efforts between SOMA and Full Ammo Improv have had packed performances in the past, and they plan on more successful shows in the future.
"College Humor has been wildly successful," McColey (senior-advertising) said. "I can see no reason why it wouldn't be successful."
Both Miller and Murphy said they expect a great turnout because the comedy is directed toward a college crowd. The college demographic offers a great opportunity to cultivate comedy in the Penn State community, McColey said.
"We came together because we're really into comedy and they're really good at organizing events," Miller said.
