Beachum tears ACL, out for rest of season

Brandon Beachum will miss the remainder of the 2009 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee on Saturday, according to a release issued by the Penn State football program.

Beachum, a true sophomore running back, hurt his knee while attempting to recover a Jerome Hayes fumble on a kickoff return on the first play of the third quarter in Penn State's 31-20 win over Indiana on Saturday.

Beachum appeared in all 11 games for the Nittany Lions this season, rushing for 113 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries.

Beachum will have surgery in the next two weeks and his rehabilitation will take a minimum of nine months, according to Penn State Director of Athletic Medicine Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli in the release.
